Carlson, Mendez honored as state wrestlers of the year

East Lyme/Norwich Tech’s Lincoln Carlson was named Connecticut’s high school wrestler of the year by state coaches at the annual Connecticut High School Coaches Association’s (CHSCA) annual All-State banquet at the Aqua Turf in Southington in March.

GameTimeCT, which covers sports for the Hearst family of 10 daily newspapers in Connecticut, selected East Hartford’s Jaeckez Mendez as their state wrestler of the year.

Fairfield Warde’s Jason Shaughnessy was named coach of the year by the CHSCA with Warde’s Brandon Fulco being named assistant coach of the year. The CHSCA selected Fairfield Warde as their team of the year.

All-State honors were presented to boys in Class LL, L, M and S along with girls who participated in the CIAC Girls Championship meet. Sixteen athletes were also honored with Academic All-State honors.
