Sacred Heart won the first four matches to grab an early 17-point lead as the Pioneers won their second consecutive match and third of the season with a 29-13 non-conference win over Morgan State on Sunday in Baltimore.
Sacred Heart (3-10) took a 17-0 lead thanks to a 10-point by Jake Ice (125), a pair of wins by technical fall and Mike McGhee’s four-point win at 149 pounds.
Morgan State (2-18) cut the lead to four, 17-13, with three straight victories. But Sacred Heart’s Hunter Perez (184) and Jake Trovato (197) earned a pair of one-point decisions to spark Sacred Heart to the victory. Perez (3-5) beat Morgan State’s Kyle Grey, 8-7, before Trovato (2-11) earned his second win of the season with a 6-5 win over Nathanic Kendricks.
Brendan Gilchrist (285), the freshman from Norwalk, closed out the match with a pin to improve to 4-3 on the year. Andrew Fallon (133) picked up his team-high 12th victory against Morgan State and is now 12-3 on the season. Ryan Bolletino (174) is 13-9 on the year.

Sacred Heart beat Bloomsburg, 31-11, last week and topped Queens University of Charlotte, 40-9 on January 14. The Pioneers dropped decisions to Franklin and Marshall and Harvard between their two previous victories.
Sacred Heart has two dual meets remaining. They travel to Long Island University for a Tuesday evening match on Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. The Pioneers close out the regular season a match at Brown on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. in Providence.
