EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa., Jan. 21, 2023 — Big victories down the stretch propelled No. 8 Sacred Heart to a 33-11 win over No. 11 East Stroudsburg in women’s wrestling action on Saturday.
The Pioneers extend their single-season record for wins to 14 as they improve to 14-4 on the season.
The two teams split the first four bouts with the Pioneers holding an 11-8 advantage. Third-ranked Alexandra Fitzgerald’s decision and a tech fall from Veronica Whitacre at 136 pounds helped the Pioneers extend their lead to 18-8.
Sacred Heart put the team match away in the last three bouts, starting with a forfeit at 155 pounds. No. 5 Cara Broadus posted a 10-0 tech fall at 170 pounds then Jacklyn Smith shut the door when she pinned Damiana Racciatti in two minutes at 191 pounds.
The Pioneer are back in action on January 29 at Elmira College.
