Franklin and Marshall finishes strong to beat Sacred Heart

LANCASTER, Pa., January 29, 2023 – Back-to-back wins from Sacred Heart’s Nick Palumbo (157) and Aidan Zarrella pulled the Sacred Heart men’s wrestling team within four points of host Franklin and Marshall in Sunday’s EIWA dual meet.

But the Diplomats won the final four matches of the bout with a pair of technical falls and an injury default to pull away for a 35-11 victory.

Franklin and Marshall (7-5, 2-3 EIWA) won seven of 10 bouts, picking up bonus points in six victories. The Diplomats had four wins by technical fall and one pin. Franklin and Marshall had a 38-4 edge in near fall points and a 30-12 edge in takedowns.

Sacred Heart (0-9, 0-4 EIWA) received wins from Palumbo, Zarella and Dakota Asuncion at 141. The Pioneers have lost 18 straight dual meet bouts.

Sacred Heart returns to action on Sunday when they host Bloomsburg University at 1 p.m. at the Pitt Center in Fairfield.
