Camacho wins as No. 4 Wolfpack beat Appalachian State

Danbury native Jakob Camacho had four takedowns in his individual victory at 125 pounds Friday night to help No. 4 North Carolina State beat No. 27 Appalachian State, 24-12 in Raleigh, N.C.

The Wolfpack (2-0) won four of the first five matches to jump out to a commanding 14-3 lead and capture their 19th straight dual meet, the longest current winning streak in the country.

Camacho, who is ranked No. 7 in the country at 125, had a pair of takedowns as he built a 4-3 lead after two periods. In the third period, he outscored Appalachian State’s senior Codi Russell by a 6-0 margin. Another point for riding time gave Camacho a 11-4 decision.

App State (0-1) cut the lead to 14-12 with two matches but the Wolfpack won the final two matches with victories from Nick Reenan (197) with a pin and Deonte Wilson (285) with a 11-2 decision over junior Tim Warren.

Michael Burchell of Hand-Madison wrestles for Appalachian State at 285 but wasn’t in the starting lineup.

The Pack will open its ACC slate next weekend, traveling up to Virginia for a Friday night dual.
