Video: 2009 New England championships

NEW HAVEN, March 7, 2009 – His own coach called him a diamond in the rough. On Saturday night, St. Bernard’s Lucas Bowman was beaming after becoming the only Connecticut wrestler to win a New England championship.

Bowman, the Class S and State Open champion, hit a reversal with 42 seconds left in the third period and made it stand up in a 4-2 victory over Travis Spencer of Belfast, Maine in the championship match at 189 pounds. “I’m so proud of him,” St. Bernard’s coach Kirk Jenkins said. “He busted his tail all year.”
