Harvard gets past Sacred Heart, 39-15

CAMBRIDGE, Jan. 15, 2022 – Six of 10 wrestlers in the lineup for the Sacred Heart University men’s wrestling team were wrestling in their first-ever dual meet and Harvard took advantage with a 39-15 victory over Sacred Heart in Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) action on Saturday.
Only one of the Pioneer rookies came up with a dual meet victory with Sacred Heart’s Nick Copley earning a 7-1 victory at 285 pounds.
The only victory for Sacred Heart came from Nick Palumbo at 157 pounds with a 3-2 win over Trevor Tarsi. It is Palumbo’s second consecutive one-point win in dual meet competition. Palumbo (4-2) had a one-point in against Binghamton on Dec. 18.
Harvard’s Alex Whitworth (165) earned a one-point win over Sacred Heart’s Scott Jarosz, 3-2 thanks to a third period takedown while Crimson teammate Michael Dogett (174) outlasted Pioneer rookie Ryan Bollention, 4-2.
Freshman Dom Mata (197), sophomore Nick Marcenelle (197), junior Dillon Murphy (133) and senior Lukus Stricker (149) each had pins for Harvard (1-1, 1-1 EIWA).
Sacred Heart (1-3, 0-2 EIIWA) returns to action on Saturday when travel to Bucknell at 5 p.m.
