Gilchrist finishes second at Collegiate Club nationals

Brown’s Calli Gilchrist finished second at USA Wrestling’s Collegiate Nationals in Iowa.

Norwalk’s Calli Gilchrist of Brown University finished second at 125 pounds in the first USA Wrestling Women’s Collegiate Club national championship on Thursday in North Liberty, Iowa.

The event was to provide women with club teams at their respective schools with an opportunity to compete in a national championship tournament.

Gilchrist, a freshman at Brown, went 2-1 in the tournament. She didn’t allow a point in her first two victories by technical fall – 11-0 in 40 seconds and 10-0 in 1:58. But Oklahoma State’s Molly Allen of the Cowgirls Wrestling Club pinned Gilchrist in 2:41 to win the tournament.

Allen was one of four individual champions for Cowgirls WC, who won the tournament by more than 100 points.

Coast Guard’s Paraskevi Christopoulos finished second at 138 pounds, losing by technical fall, 10-0 in 5:11 to Mia Collins of Columbia in the final.

Coast Guard’s Cameron Massie (160) also finished second after getting pinned by Arizona State’s Trinity Bouchal in 2:31. Coast Guard’s Sierra Wangen finished third at 160 while teammate Mia Carabajal-Hartog finished fifth at 160.
