Notre Dame-West Haven declared winner of Nighthawk Duals on criteria
Notre Dame-West Haven has been declared the winner of the fifth annual Nighthawk Duals in Newtown on criteria, Nighthawk assistant coach Tom Maurath said Wednesday . Host Newtown finished second with Wilton taking third.
Notre Dame, Newtown and Wilton each went 4-1 in the round-robin tournament. To break the tie, criteria went to total match points against the tied teams.
The Green Knights scored 84 points in matches against Newtown and Wilton while Newtown scored 80 points against Wilton and Notre Dame. Wilton scored 73 points in their two matches against Newtown and Notre Dame.
Notre Dame (9-2) handed Newtown (6-1) their first loss of the season, 45-33, while Wilton (6-4) slipped past Notre Dame, 40-39 in the tournament thanks to five pins and a forfeit. Newtown beat Wilton, 47-33.
It was Notre Dame’s first win at the Nighthawk Duals.
