Longo earns All-American honors for third time in Greco-Roman
Trumbull’s Michael Longo became the fifth Connecticut wrestler to earn All-American honors at the 2022 USA Wrestling Junior and 16U National championships in Fargo, North Dakota on Friday.
Longo finished sixth at 113 pounds in the Junior Greco-Roman competition to earn All-American honors for the third time. A year ago, Longo was third in Junior Greco-Roman at 106 pounds. In 2019, he was fifth at 100 pounds.
Longo won his first four matches – all by technical fall – to advance to the semifinals where he ran into eventual champion Anthony Ruzic of Illinois. Ruzic pinned Longo in 5:03 to advance to the final.
Longo was hurt in the semifinal loss and didn’t wrestle again to finish sixth. In his four wins, Longo won his matches in 1:34 or less.
Guilford’s Chris Murphy went 3-2 at 220 pounds in the Greco-Roman tournament with one pin. Murphy advanced to the quarterfinals before he dropped his first match. Murphy was the only other state wrestler in the Greco-Roman tournament with multiple wins.
