Newtown wrestlers win medals at Kids Nationals

A pair of Newtown wrestlers won medals at USA Wrestling’s Kids Nationals competition in Farmington, Utah on Tuesday.

Newtown’s Brighton Karvoski finished third in the 14-and-under tournament at 87 pounds in Greco-Roman and freestyle.

In the freestyle tournament, Karvoski was 5-1 with four straight wins in the consolation round to take third. He had two pins in the tournament. In the Greco-Roman tournament, Karvoski was 4-1 with four pins, including two pins (eight seconds, 23 seconds) in under 30 seconds in the consolation round.

In the 12-and-under tournament, Newtown’s Matthew Stoerzinger finished second at 98 pounds in freestyle and fourth at 98 pounds in Greco-Roman.

Stoerzinger was 3-1 in the freestyle tournament with one pin when he went 4-2 in the Greco-Roman tournament with two pins.

Competition was held in Greco-Roman and freestyle in the 14-and-under, 12-and-under and 10-and-under divisions.
