No. 8 Foran rallies with late victories to beat Amity; Killingly extends win streak to 27

No. 8 Foran (9-2) won the final three matches with captain Ethan Edmondson (152) getting a pin to lift Foran to a 40-38 victory over Amity in SCC Division I action on Thursday evening.
Foran won four of the final five matches to erase a 20-point deficit and earn the win. Michael Vanchot (138) had a key pin for Foran while Ryan Jordan (145) won by technical fall to cut the Amity lead to four points with one match remaining.
No. 9 Killingly (7-0) rolled to their 27th consecutive dual meet victory with a 67-9 win over Griswold. Killingly won the final 20 dual meets of the season a year ago. Killingly is two wins shy of the school record of 29 straight wins set in 1968-71.

Luke DeAngelis (220) and Jacob Vecchio (285) won by pin to help lift No. 7 Southington to a four-point win over Wethersfield, 40-36. Vecchio’s pin clinched the match for the Blue Knights, who took control of the bout with consecutive wins from Darius Mangiafico (138), Jared Guida (145) and Dawsen Welch (152).
No. 3 Simsbury (2-0) had 10 pins in a 66-8 CCC West decision over Hall-West Hartford. Seven of the 10 pins came in the first period. Simsbury tied a school record set back in 2006 with 10 pins in a single match. … No. 10 Manchester (7-0) had six pins to remain unbeaten with a 46-34 victory over Avon. … Maloney (5-0) is still undefeated after a 37-33 win over Plainville in CCC action. … Bristol Central (7-0) dominated Berlin in a 59-18 victory.

Luis Stephenson had a pin in the final match of the evening to lift Notre Dame-West Haven to a 42-39 victory over Cheshire in a SCC Division II contest.
Northwestern Regional took advantage of five forfeits to beat defending Class S champion Gilbert for the first time since 2015 with a 45-27 Berkshire League victory. It was just the fifth time that the Highlanders have beaten the Yellowjackets.

There is plenty of excitement in Woodbridge with Amity off to a 6-2 start. No. 8 Foran beat the Spartans with a pin in the final bout on Thursday, 40-38 but Amity has been wrestling well. The Spartans won the Shelton Invitational with nine finalists and four individual champions – Colin Bouford (106), Kyle Ciola (138), Simon Flaherty (182) and Andrew Cosia (285). Amity dropped a tough 44-22 loss to No. 10 Manchester at the Trumbull Duals on Saturday but rallied with four consecutive victories over Masuk, 72-12; Fairfield Ludlowe, 59-12; Greenwich, 52-27 and Pomperaug, 43-42, to finish fourth in the tournament.
